Optional
Event #2
Silver Comet Trail
Includes:
Designed for Roller Blading
You could run.You could ride your bike, then push your bike, then ride
your bike. I suppose you could skateboard.
It’s an Optional Event, so the important thing is to answer the
questions and cover the distance. I know, it’s really about the
questions.
Required
Gear:
Roller Blades
Water
Backpack to carry roller blades while hiking
Maybe a plastic bag for muddy shoes while roller blading back to
parking lot if it’s been raining.
Paper Pencil.
Cautions:
If it’s been raining the section along the creek will be muddy.
There is one short section on a street. You can use the sidewalk, but
just to be safe I should say use common sense and watch Traffic.
Other
Notes:
Biking is not permitted on the trails along the creek. I do think you could
push your bike though.
Time: 60-90 minutes (roller blading)
Trail
Map: Here is a link to the trail, directions,
and this is just an informative site on some other trail type information.
One of the things I like about
an Adventure Racing Club is that we are not limited to small list of activities.
We can do anything and label it as an Adventure Race.

Go around the lake
Turn left on Mavell Road (There is a sign for the Silver Comet Trail as
well)

Instructions
Note
: I will give the directions as if you are on Roller Blades.
If you are not on Roller Blades then improvise whatever is necessary,
but please do not ride your bike on the trails by the Creek. I don’t
think pushing your bike is an issue though.
Leave the Parking lot and head off down the Silver Comet trail.
Eventually (2 - 2.5 miles) you will cross the East/West Connector
(4 lanes separated) on a large semi covered bridge.
Immediately on your LEFT is the entrance pictured here:

QUESTION #1: What is the missing word from the shown sign?
Change into your Running / Hiking shoes and put away your roller blades
for a bit. Hike down hill on the switch backs to the ruins.

Aren’t they cool!
Now, head off to the LEFT on the trail, look at this picture and answer
this Question.

QUESTION #2: What letters are missing on this Manhole
cover? This one is on the RIGHT side of the trail as you leave the ruins.
Continue on the trail until you come to this small ‘overlook’ (although
I’m not really sure why the wooden structure is necessary).

QUESTION #3: Who is responsible for donating this portion of the trail?
Continue down the trail. Eventually you will come to this opening. It’s
the first real opening, and the rocks and pipe over the creek really
give it away.
Look at this picture and answer the question
QUESTION #4: How many obvious LARGE TREE TRUNKS
are covered in the Green Square?
Continue on down the trail.
You will eventually come to a long wooden bridge on your RIGHT.
Turn RIGHT onto the bridge and follow it until it ends and a trail continue
on.
Continue to the park on the other end of the Wooden Bridge and Trail
and answer this Question.
QUESTION #5: What is the name of this Park?
Investigate the sidewalks and around the Pavillion and answer this Question.
QUESTION #6: What is etched into the sidewalks next to the part of the
Pavillion heading toward the street leading in the direction of the East/West
Connector?
Switch back to your Rollerblades, pack away your hikers/runners and head
off past the Pavilliion to the LEFT on the street/sidewalk.
Within 400 yards you will arrive at the East/West Connector.
You will find a crosswalk leading to a sidewalk leading to the Silver
Comet.
Turn RIGHT onto the Silver Comet and Blade back to the parking lot.
