Tiny bit of route finding

Some sort of hydration
A snack might be a good idea
Pen and Paper
You might bring an extra spare tire if you go alone
Cautions:
Loose Gravel
Snakes (I’ve seen 3 in about 6 visits)
Sticker bushes leaning into the road looking at your tires
Blind downhill corners with hazards
Downhills with all the above
Potential to get lost I suppose :)
Other
Notes:
The
riding is mostly on roads resembling forest service roads. Some sections
have a little more gravel than others.
A couple of the hill sections will really make you work. Many of you
will have to walk. One climb is right at 1 mile.
You should either have a computer on your bike for approximate distances
or be good at guessing. It’s only relevant to a couple areas, but
it would be nice to have along.
It’s always safer to travel with a friend or at least let someone
know where you are going and what time to send help.
Here are some GPS points if you happen to have a handheld (These are
approximate)

QUESTION
#1: Fill in the missing words from the sign.

Put on your biking gear and head off up the hill past the gate, following
the BLUE LINE on the provided Trail
Map. Follow the main road until
you come to a concrete bridge on the LEFT. It should be
around 1.4-1.6 miles.
Turn LEFT and Cross the concrete bridge.
 Find
the trail on the Right about 100 yards from the bridge and follow it
to the large man made
structure. It is big. We’re looking for something bigger than a car, and taller
than 15 feet.
QUESTION#2: Just describe the structure so
we can tell you’ve been
there. That should provide some interesting reading.
Return to the road and continue following the road (BLUE LINE) away
from the concrete bridge. Continue until you gone approximately 5.4
miles total.
Your turnaround is at the top of a steep, but rather short hill that
is more covered with more of the yellowish stone rocks than any other
uphill portion of the road you’ve been on to this point. This
will also be the first time you are in a partial clearing on the
top of a hill.
QUESTION#3: What is the man made structure
which comes into clear view as you top out the hill. The structure will be straight in front
of
you and should be VERY obvious.
Once you have the answer you can turn around and head back now following
the Green Line. You will go back across the bridge Turn LEFT and
continue down the road. A short distance down the road you’ll find
another concrete bridge on your LEFT. DO NOT CROSS THE BRIDGE. Continue
down the road past the bridge.
Around total mileage of 11 miles or a little more you’ll meet the
start of the 1 mile hill. It starts off steep, intensely steep and they
throw in a little large loose rock just for kicks.
As the road corners to the right the angle lessens and you’ll be
fine.
Between here and the top of the next steep section (which will be
obvious) you’ll have a little down hill and looking to your left please
answer the following question.
QUESTION#4: What color are the stripes on the
trees? There are lots
of stripes on lots of trees. I only noticed one color so please go
for the
most obvious color.

Continue along the road until you reach the top of the steep section.
It’s noted with a spot on the map. The hill is very steep, then
turns less angled and then there is a large clearing on the right where
trees have been cleared the dirt is worked down. This should be around
12 miles total approximately.
QUESTION#5: In the clearing immediately on
the RIGHT there are some rocks on a pile of dirt. What shape do the
rocks form? I’m sure there
is more than one way to describe this shape, but you shouldn’t
have a problem convincing us you were there.
Continue on the road up and down hills.
You’ll know you are about to start the major down hill section
which leads back to the parking lot when you see the old rusty trash
barrel on the left side of the road In the weeds where there is a large
clearing as you top a hill.
Continue following the road downhill. There some good whoop teedoos,
but the gravel can make them a little intimidating.
There are a couple of RIGHT hand corners which are very obvious as
you descend. There are a couple of small places where water cross
the road as well (nothing to dismount for), and one short up hill section
before
you
arrive at a gate and the main road.
Turn RIGHT onto the asphalt and follow it back to the parking lot
(approxi .5 to .8 mile).
This is my favorite place to feed my legs a good burn. Enjoy!
