TrailBlazers Take the Lead in a Different Type of Race
Atlanta, Georgia -- Wednesday, August 13 2003: The Atlanta chapter
of the TrailBlazers Adventure Racing Club kicked off their first main volunteer
event to win points by volunteering hours to better the environment. TrailBlazers
are taking part in this race through the organization Adventure Racers
for the Environment (ARFE). Approximately twenty Adventure Racing
clubs in the nation are competing to log the most volunteer hours by the
end of the year. "It's
a win-win situation for everyone", says TrailBlazers Director of
Philanthropy, Namrita Kumar. "We are giving back to the trails,
the rivers, the parks and forests, which is where we spend all our time
training and racing. At
the same time, we are strengthening partnerships with other outdoor clubs
in the area, as well as helping to give Adventure Racers a good reputation
around the nation."
The TrailBlazers first event involved helping to complete a new beginner
mountain bike trail building project in Roswell, Georgia with SORBA and
RAMBO. The Big Creek trail will be officially open in Fall, 2003. The
club's
next organized volunteer event will take place in conjunction with the
Rivers Alive program, at the Chattahoochee River area in Cobb County, Georgia,
on September 27, 2003. Visit the TrailBlazers website for additional
information, or to sign up.
